Who we are
You should already know the answer to this very question. We are Heavyshelf, our website address is https://community.heavyshelf.com, and we are based in the United States with property located in the United Kingdom.
What data we collect
We utilize Invision Community software to allow our readers and visitors to engage in conversation — something that we hold dear here at Heavyshelf. In order to allow such discussions to take place, we need to have some form of moderation deployed, which requires us to collect IP addresses and other data to help keep threads clean for everyone to enjoy.
If you log in with your Heavyshelf user account, which we strongly recommend doing so, you will be sent a temporary cookie for your browser to keep you logged in. This helps avoid needing to enter your credentials each time you visit to leave a post, making it a much better experience overall. No personal data is obtained aside from what you enter into your account profile.
We use Google Analytics to collect and monitor data as to how visitors browse around Heavyshelf. Data collected is anonymous and is not used anywhere outside of checks to see how well (or not so) our content and community is performing. How we do this is by sending a cookie to your browser, which is subsequently stored on your device.
It’s possible to opt-out of Google Analytics if you so wish.
Posts on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website. We try to moderate and remove content that tracks you or installs external cookies, but something may slip through the net.
Who we share data with
No one. Your data is kept safe on our servers and is not transferred anywhere.
How long we retain data
If you publish a post, the content and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
Our servers are secured by various software and measures to protect against outside threats. No online platform is immune from attacks and a breach may occur, which is why we attempt to collect as little as possible on all visitors.
